Hollywood Bad Guy

World leaders face off in the 80's.

In the 80's no one feared the US, they looked on them as meddling cowboys that believe their own movies ... nothing changed there but Soviet Russia was feared. Soviets were big and muscular with crew cuts and though they were drunk all the time they were still made of steel. A perfect villain for all the movies. Now the movie bad guy has become Arabs. Scary scary.

Movies and TV shows go to shape the perception of the public. They think one way then when years later someone does a movie with the bad guys as the heroes and someone else does a 10 facts you didn't know article and you realise you've been manipulated into thinking a certain way.

This post looks at the various villains throughout the movies not looking at monsters, sharks or anything weird that Syfi channel can think of.  A python genetically mixed with a hippopotamus. Meet the deadly the Pythopotamus!  It's fat and it hugs you to death.

Why do you never see a Pythopotamus in a tree? .... because it's sooo good at hiding.

From the very start in 1915 the movie Birth of a Nation had black people and abolitionists as the baddies. Only the KKK could restore order to the south after the civil war. Many of the black people were white actors with blackface acting aggressive, slow minded and wanting to rape all the white women .... ever wonder where whitey got that notion from?

Based on prejudice, white women who had a relationship with a black male obviously must have been raped when a wee brown baby comes along. Black people are often mistrusted and seen as the villain in real life even though it was them who were abducted from their homes and forced into slavery. It's been a difficult reputation to shake thanks to the centuries of disinformation and brainwashing.

Roots was one of the first TV series to show black people as being people rather than caricatures.

Most Americans know fuck all about history so Hollywood has given them their own version. Another popular villain was the dirty red skin. The likes of John Ford fed us shite such as the Indians won't attack at night because if they get killed their souls will be lost in the dark .... um it'll be day in a few hours for fucks sake.
Injuns were heartless brutes that tortured people to death and occasionally raping them or abducting them. In real life the Indians did torture and kill .... but so did the white man.
In 1875 a raiding party of Arrapahoes lost one fighter to 3 white dudes they were stealing horses from. Even though he wouldn't have gotten killed if the Arrapahoes hadn't attacked them they wanted revenge. They talked it out and the man that fired the fatal shot was tortured with knifes and heated up arrow heads before being shot between the eyes and scalped. The other two managed to steal some horses and get away the next day.
This sounds exactly like any modern military unit that lost someone and has captives out in the field. In Saving Private Ryan they had this problem with a captive. I'm amazed it didn't happen all the time with the Injuns. They were going to torture a second whitey just for fun but their chief Lone Wolf (awkward name for today) stopped them.

Indian tribes warred with each other and took slaves. When the truth about that asshole General Custer came out in various movies, also A man called Horse, Little Big Man, The legend of Walks as far woman and when Bury my heart at Wounded Knee was written the US got a conscience. A crying fake Indian in a commercial also helped then everyone claimed to be Cherokee all of a sudden.

Though not enough of a conscience to help the generations of Native Americans living in poverty on reservations. Treaties and rights still get broken and trampled but at least there are no grunting one dimensional Injuns except the ones we are supposed to laugh at like in that terrible Lone Ranger movie.

If you live in the UK then you probably still think WWII is going on because you still see all the war movies. Germans shouting "swinehunt" and "Die Englander pig" and all an American or English soldier has to do is put on a uniform to fool the other Germans.

The Nazis were dicks, that is not in dispute and a million war movies can't be wrong. Then you get cockney Michael Cane or looney Tom Cruise as a German officers showing that some Germans (though fighting for the Nazis) were decent.

The Japanese also became the inhuman foil and if you know about the Bataan Death March you know what evil fanatics they really were. The stories about Hiroshima and Nagasaki have tempered our understanding and we do that whole, 'well you can't blame the people' thing but back then Japan was run like a cult, the Emperor being their god .... not one but it took two nukes.

Hippy film makers tried to warn us that if we proceeded the way we are we'd destroy the world. We became the enemy sort of. The Apes were a little too human and did the exact same things as the humans they hated so much.  A reminder that we are just animals not really able to achieve much more than our own downfall and destruction.

We are clever enough just to fuck everything up.

Vikings have been the bad guy. Hats with horns on them, drinking, laughing and eating chunks of meat. The sight of their sails would strike fear into the hearts of a Saxon peasant. They didn't have any personality they were just brash barbarians. Now we know they bathed more than most Europeans, bleached their hair and beards and traded slaves from the Mediterranean sea to the Baltic. They were pretty well traveled for their day.

Shows like Vikings has made them into heroes to be admired even though they are quite savage and brutal. You had to be to live in those times I suppose.

Rex Harrison put on blackface to play sexy rexy Saladin when the Saracens were the enemy. They were shown to be honorable and way smarter than the Crusaders especially when it came to medicine and yet the Crusaders were always the good guys.

The Crusaders were anti-semitic religious fanatics which is what we tend to cast everyone else as being.

Richard the lion heart was a terrible King. He could barely speak English and only wanted war and glory, he left the running of England to his brother John, he never liked the cuntry anyways. The movies all have King John as being a tyrant but in reality he was holding the place together and wouldn't have demanded so much tax if his brother hadn't been waging an expensive war oh and being held prisoner for ransom.

The legend of Robin Hood has hurt King John's image as much as Shakespeare did for Richard III's posture. "A horse a horse ... but one with wheelchair access"

More blackface with the Klingons. They were yer basic bad guy along with the Romulans. What is their motivation? To kill the good guys and take over of course. They looked like Genghis Khan and a Saracen with a touch of Satan thrown in.

I don't know what Roddenberry had against Asians but the Romulans and inscrutable Vulcans were Asian like too.

As Star Trek got popular the Klingons actually became a more fleshed out race of beings with their own language and history .... fuck some nerds are dull.

Reds under the beds made sure that everyone knew we could be destroyed at any time by nukes. Yes those Soviets again. They hate everything soft and Amerikan. Why is it that Americans seem to rub everyone up the wrong way? Probably to do with being a shower of cunts or something.

Americans hate the thought of someone getting something for free so Communism really did scare them. What a crazy idea that everyone is equal and all having the same things .... the same iPhone, the same car, the same flat screen TV .... crazy. We demand the freedom to be permanently in debt!

War Games, The Falcon and the Snowman, Red Dawn had the unflinching commie while Little Nikita had River Phoenix showing you that Russians could be pretty and the good guy. Russia is no longer Communist but since 2008 and Obama they've been the bad guy again.

Again we ourselves became the baddie but with zombies, vampires and werewolves being turned into the good guy as well. Hey I'm a tortured conflicted 300 year-old ex killer that hangs around schools, love me.  In the zombie or viral apocalyse it has become clear that humans are the biggest most deadly of threats..... big surprise there.

Bloody terrorists, remember when dog shit and terrorists were white? Ah the good old days, now you have bloody immigrants taking jobs away from good British and Irish terrorists. We want killed and the fuck bombed out of us for a United Ireland, not cos of Allan's will.

Brad Pitt and Richard Gere played IRA scumbags terrorists and even Michael Fassbender so they got a make over and abs too. The Troubles were started due to poor Catholic civil rights and soon became unjustifiable bloody atrocities on the Republican and the British side.

We still get shootings, bombs and riots but call it crime because admitting we had terrorists would suggest the peace process failed.

In Back to the future we had Libyan terrorists now you have shows like Homeland or 24 that have other more generic terrorists.  Terrorist has now become synonymous with being a Muslim thanks to American re-branding.
The hero is obviously the white American soldier invading fighting for freedom by going to the Middle East and killing people whether they like it or not. The more you kill there the less there are faking passports and blowing you up with crock pots.

It's funny how bad guys are turned into good guys by Hollywood and the effect that Hollywood has on the narrative of public perception. Even evil Terminator cyborgs are made into the good guy if he is popular enough.
Marvel's Winter Soldier was a Soviet killing machine but it's alright cos he was brain washed then and only kills now if you know the code ... like that would fly in court.

People of colour seem to have it worse than most, just ask an ethnic actor what roles they get offered and you'll see quite a lot of stereotyping even now.  The villains maybe just there for the hero to kill and to make him (usually him) look good. You aren't supposed to give them a second thought or even wonder how many fathers didn't come home after that Skywalker cunt blew up their base.

Still, the movies do add to the bias of the public. I'm sure 300, Dracula Untold and American Sniper are all on the shelf of most deplorable Trump supporters that for some reason just enjoy seeing foreign raghead types getting killed.

Old Knudsen Reviews 71

71 is a movie about the Troubles in Northern Ireland. To give you a brief understanding of the Troubles it was Protestant against Catholic, the Prods getting all the opportunities, education and more than one vote if you owned property while the Taigs were discriminated against with no chance of a future.

There have been riots and fighting for the past 100 years but in the 60's the Catholics got together to demand human rights, their various marches were attacked and when the police are Protestant friendly ... well you can guess where that goes. In 1969 the British government sent in troops to protect the Catholics from the mean Protestants but ended up getting attacked from both sides.

The troops ended up siding with the Protestants and the police and so began the Troubles, 30 years of civil war and terrorism that continues in a milder form today.

Give me back that rifle that is fitted with walnut furniture while mine has the Maranyl stock and grip. Two different models in one unit? The Maranyl wasn't even used then.

Young Gary Hook is an English soldier who rather than getting sent to Germany but got sent to Northern Ireland. His unit while in Belfast is briefed that East Belfast is Loyalist which is friendly and the west is Republican and is hostile. In reality both sides are hostile but Loyalists will work with the soldiers and police. Both sides have their terrorist gangs who are not big thinkers.

They are told that the Divis flats are a Republican stronghold and to NEVER go near there. Yeah you guessed it he ends up there.

The Loyalist gang UDA out on patrol with their military spec bin lids .... lol!

The officer in charge of Hook's unit is a noob and his seasoned NCO's didn't take him to the side like they would have done in real life. While out harassing the Fenians Hook gets separated from his unit and goes on the run through the Catholic areas .

The Troubles were a depressing time when many grew desensitized to suffering and accepted it as a way of life, much like Palestine and Israel, it's easier to demonize and hate the other side than live together in peace.

Not to spoil the movie 71, it was tense and dramatic but the characters were bleh just bodies to fill the purpose of the story. I had read that it was filmed in Scotland but no, it was shot in the north of England as they have depressing terrace houses that can double for Belfast. You can shoot Game of thrones in Northern Ireland but put a load of British soldiers onto the streets and people have flashbacks and complain.

Jack O'Connell spends the whole movie looking confused and scared, can't blame him he's the unluckiest soldier ever! Welcome to Belfast.

The film covers the hostile tribal nature of the Troubles with a 10 year-old threatening grown ups because his uncle is a big mawn in the paramilitaries. The English soldiers are in a completely different world than what they are used to and the police are just heavy handed thugs.

The over all theme is that Private Hook, like all the other soldiers and terrorists are just pawns that mean nothing which is why he nearly gets killed by all sides cos you cannot trust anyone and your life doesn't matter.

A 1971 L1A1 Self Loading Rifle as used right up to just before 1990. A fine powerful weapon.

It's a decent movie and was interesting to see the 70's again and besides using the wrong rifles (with the pebbled Maranyl grips) the army training was oh so familiar. The useless flak jackets remained useless with rubber blocks getting fitted up near to the shoulder, you made the vow to yerself that the jacket would be the first thing to come off if you got into a fire fight as it got in yer way to fire yer rifle. The SLR was a heavy powerful rifle and needed to be held properly unlike the 9mm sub machine gun which was a nice wee toy.

Getting stoned (not in a cool way) while getting transported in the back of a 4-tonne truck was a usual occurrence, no wonder the Brits from England were nervous wreaks. Some parts of the military bases in Belfast you were advised not to walk as those angles could be seen by snipers on the outside.

Old Knudsen served because it was stupid to hate someone for what they were (Protestant or Catholic) and saw people as good or bad guys no matter the side. So many wrongs were done before and during the Troubles and this movie shows a few.

Non-Stop Stupid

Liam Neeson is probably the best export that Northern Ireland has ever had. Unlike the Titanic he hasn't sunk (to be fair it was an Englishman driving it) and unlike our sports stars like George Best and Hurricane Higgins he didn't end up a junkie alcoholic that shone for 15 minutes before ruining everything.
I'd mention Rory McIlroy but his success is still to be seen, anyone can have a few good golf games and then just fail .... eh Tiger?

Neeson seems to be a nice fella, he hasn't been found to be a rapist or pedo yet and the poor man lost his wife so we're inclined to like him. Though like every other successful person here he did fuck off to live elsewhere but he has returned and now promotes Northern Ireland as a tourist destination, "Northern Ireland, come visit on your way to somewhere nice."

I think he has come to realise that he isn't the world's greatest of actors and even though he's getting on a bit they'll still pay him a shitload to star in films. The movie roles he chooses seem to be tough action roles that don't require too much thinking from the audience.

Most of his movies now look like they are a part of the Taken franchise. Look frantic on the phone and then some close quarter fighting before almost emotionally falling apart but not quite because his acting range doesn't cover full retard.

I just watched Non-stop, if Taken 1,2 and 3 are yer kind of movie then watch this. It is also similar to his flick Unknown in which you have to figure out who the enemy is. Old Knudsen likes and dislikes this kind of film because of me natural paranoia I'm shouting at the telly accusing everyone. I guessed wrong but I wasn't really trying .... I was distracted by his powerful performance eerily similar to all his others.

The usually iconic imagery of the slow-mo shoot out is used.

An alcoholic paranoid man from Northern Ireland gets onto a plane .....  that's enough about me. Liam Neeson gets on too, he's an alcoholic Air Marshal born in Belfast. So far it's believable, just ignore the fact that he's 62. They always die the hair of the older leading men like Perice Brosnan and Roger Moore to make them look, not younger but like old men with died hair.

Some one sends him texts saying they will kill people on board unless money gets put into their account.
Neeson's character Bill is grieving the loss of his daughter who died from leukemia, he's drinking too much and doesn't give a fuck. He's the perfect patsy to blame an air hi-jack on. I lost count of how many times he was relieved of duty from a superior on the ground but this is Liam fucking Neeson, he'll smoke in the plane's toilet and he'll duct tape who the fuck he wants to.

While he's trying to control the situation in the plane and find the bad guy or girls, Fox news like channels are making him out to be a psycho nut job, even complaining that he isn't US born but is allowed to have a gun and badge on a plane .... He's from Northern Ireland, he might even be in the IRA says one.

Except the IRA don't have the balls for such a thing, they hide in the shadows and try to blow people up while at a safe distance. Stoopid America panic news.... oh and Obama wants yer guns and to give illegal immigrants benefits and citizenship, especially Muslims .

Why did I do a post about Liam Neeson? because I'm trying to cope with a lot of stupid online. I can't even go onto Facebook without having my daily dose of stupid givin to me within the first 5 minutes.

Do these people who talk about revolution just like Timothy McVeigh and the Vegas shooters did really need to have guns? Why can't the Fox news Duck dynasty loving morons see that their ideals are shared by scumbag murderers?

People who agree with Sheriff Joe Arpaio .... AND IN CAPS TOO! Have to have mental illness issues, they also no doubt think that Donald Trump is a sane intelligent person too. Yes lets listen to one of the most self entitled racist bigots there are, I bet he knows what he's talking about.

The Mexican border is a fucking war zone that makes Afghanistan look like a holiday in the sun. The military and the police are too shit scared to go near it. Who would clean up the mess they'd make in their shorts?

"It's easier to hate people for what they are than actually address and fix the problems in life."  ~ Old Knudsen.
Yes the Israelis are killing innocent people quit yer crying, I don't see you so outraged at the hundred other atrocities happening this week. People ignoring education and healthcare needs but focusing on the 2nd amendment, immigrants, parading or idiot soccer .... oh look a video on animal torture, I'll never eat chicken ever again but if I LIKE this status update I can stop child soldiers in Africa.

Did we ever bring our gurls home? oh that's right, everyone lost interest.

David Icke's name in the corner should clue you into the crazy.

This is one of the latest that I hate. An F-35 costs $122 million, $98 million for a cheaper Hornet so I'm wondering where the $600,000 figure came from and the same people that post shit like this constantly complain about welfare entitlement so make up yer minds.

 Another version.

I know a nice cuntry called Saudi Arabia who'll buy it if yer interested, since arms dealing is perfectly acceptable now.  Is this just one $600,000 house for all the homeless? that's Hilary Clinton dead broke homeless yer talking.

Why not just give jets to the homeless? Obviously since they are refusing to go to the welfare office for help because of their mental issues or addiction issues give them all a jet and watch their faces light up as they light up the town with rockets.

See what I mean about stupid? Lets sell guns (maybe to Mexico) for cancer research.

Hence my Liam Neeson post. I can't punch these people in the throat and they'll never see sense so I'll post about good working class movies for people who like a drink and to fantasize about being a hero.

I don't want to spoil the movie too much but it's Old Knudsen who is the movie's bad guy .... well I see my character as a patriot and the good guy. Like many patriots before me I believe in blowing innocent people up and killing them for my cause.

Neeson can kill people, survive a plane crash, get over losing his child, save the day and still have time for a little romance.
If you ever lose someone, kill some people on a passenger airliner to help you move on ... oh and it makes you horny too.

Go on ye boy ye!

Old Knudsen Reviews Lone Survivor

O beautiful for spacious skies, for amber waves of pain. USA, USA! So I watched this movie that was based on a true story. I don't want to give away any spoilers but figure it out, lone survivor and Marky Mark is shown in the first two minutes getting emergency medical attention. Might as well have called it, 'Everyone but Marky Mark dies.'

It starts of by showing how tough and driven US navy seals are ..... wasn't even an issue, Old Knudsen respects these guys. If you meet them out of the military setting you'll find them to be polite quiet guys who carry around the embodiment of what being American is. Unassuming, laid back apple pie guys who don't need to brag or to prove themselves to anyone.

Unlike the US Marines who feel the need to tell everyone how great they are and look down on anyone who isn't them.

Lone survivor is about a navy seal operation to kill or capture a notorious Taliban leader Ahmad Shah, code named Rick James, in Afghanistan in 2005.
It shows the human side of the men talking about wedding gifts and being more than just a team but being a family as what happens in most military units.

Some gratuitous man flesh as there were no female characters in this story.
Taylor Kitsch plays the lieutenant .

Alexander Ludwig from the TV show Vikings plays a young seal frogman eager to be sent on his first combat operation . His character Shane Patton who was a real soldier like the rest of the characters died ..... see the movie's title. Sent on yer first op and it's yer last, all that difficult training and those skills you learned. Such a waste of human life but that is what heroes do.

In the movie the Seals have technical problems with communications trying to contact the base, this was one of the major reasons for the massive fuck up similar to Ridley Scott's black hawk down where you can see from the start where things went wrong (Orlando Bloom falling from the chopper) don't take water we won't be out for long.

While waiting under some trees their position was compromised by an old man and two youths tending their goat herd. One had a walkie talkie on them which suggests that they are Tallyban.

There is a difficult conversation had by the soldiers. 1) release the prisoners and fall back to get picked up, mission aborted. 2) Keep prisoners tied up and fall back, mission aborted. 3) kill the prisoners and continue with the mission.

With their comms down they can't get new orders or advice and so it's the lieutenant that has to make the call. Marky Mark argues for releasing them as they might get eaten by wolves or die in the cold at night. Killing is not an option as it goes against the rules of engagement and could get banged up in Leavenworth Penitentiary as they have arrested others for far less. Ben Foster argues to kill them as he doesn't care about them but does care about his teammates, they could go on to kill a truck load of Marines which he states happened recently.

What would the Tallyban do if in the same position? They would not hesitate to kill them but would that make us as bad as them if we did? Fuck that line of reasoning you need to be bad if yer gonna win against these fuckers. Yer gonna get dirty so do it for the mission.

If Old Knudsen was a civilised soldier with honour he'd stupidly do the right thing, except I'd leave them tied up, they'd get free eventually.

They release the prisoners and mention about how good things happen to good people as they expect a positive karmic reward, elsewhere one of the prisoners is running down the mountain, leaping rocks like Spider man to alert his fellow Tallyban cunts.

Still no communications but they get through to HQ only to be dropped, must be on the O2 network. The Tallyban however can move at supernatural speed through their mountains and have caught up with them. Then a firefight of 60 against 4 takes place and though the seals hit their targets the Tallyban have 50 cal machine guns and RPG's.

Ben Foster, Emile Hirsch and Marky fucking Mark.

Old Knudsen wasn't taking part in this operation, he has the advantage of sitting at home after having read the movie title but seriously, some of the choices.

After taking a few bullets each they fall back only to find a 40 foot drop with jagged rocks and trees to break their fall .
So what do they do? they decide to fall off the side to get away. After some gnarly hits against some rocks they are barely on their feet again and shooting at the Tallyban.

So let me get this straight, they fall, ripping open their skin and probably breaking some bones to get to a position below the enemy in what could be called a killbox. The enemy has even more of an advantage, even fit and unwounded there was no getting away.
Since that worked out so well they did it again, after taking some more bullets but they accidentally leave poor ol Danny behind on the ridge above them.

"We gotta go back and get Danny" says the outnumbered guy who can barely stand. Are you sure they aren't Marines?
Falling into killboxes has to be the dumbest plan ever, the thing is that the only choices they had left was how to die. They were in better shape to fight the Tallyban before they started falling doon hills and becoming better targets for the ragheads.

They were brave and honourable men, it's very easy to make the choice of killing than one of compassion but we've seen what the Tallyban, Al Qaeda and ISIS can do and I'm less likely to want to offer them a chance.
Like the story of the scorpion crossing the river on the back of the horse, the horse told it not to sting or they would both die, during the crossing but the scorpion did it anyway because hey, he's a fucking scorpion.

Could I live with myself if I killed unarmed prisoners ? yeah, it would be how my fellow brothers saw me afterwards that would be the most difficult and would they tell out of a sense of honour and duty?

Marky Mark whose acting ability failed as he is not Seal material in any shape or form got saved by friendly Afghans who protected him from the Tallyban because he was their guest.

So out of a disaster of an operation that went wrong due to not getting a radio signal and the guys on the ground doing the morally right thing you get to thinking that they should have killed the prisoners and what good is doing the right thing? Though the Afghan villagers did the right thing too so karma is very inconsistent and we tend to only see the bad things that we claim as karma.

Navy Seals getting made drown proof during training.

Marcus Luttrell who Marky Mark played went on to write the book that the movie was based on. Not a feel good movie though you do come away with a sense of pride and respect for these tough bastards who have searched themselves better than any introspective philosopher and know what they are capable of due to how hard they have pushed themselves.
